Working with date fields can often be a source of frustration for programmers at all levels, especially when it comes to
making accurate comparisons and calculations. Dates in SAS can be stored and formatted in numerous ways, such as
numeric date values or character strings, and understanding these differences is essential for effective data analysis.
Misinterpreting date formats or using incompatible types can lead to incorrect results or errors that are difficult to
troubleshoot. My poster shares ways to simplify the process by exploring how to handle the various formats and
representations of dates effectively. We will compare numeric versus character date fields, discuss the differences
between date and datetime variables, and cover best practices for defining appropriate lengths, formats, and informats.
By untangling the complexities of SAS date and datetime concepts, this presentation will equip aspiring programmers
with the tools needed to perform accurate date comparisons confidently, ultimately transforming a common source of
programming frustration into a powerful feature of their data processing toolkit. |
