Authors Abstract
Abbas Tavakoli, April Hutoo, Phyllis Raynor The Shared Trauma Posttraumatic Professional Growth Inventory-Modified (STPPG) is a 17-item, Likert-type scale developed to assess trauma exposure among mental health professionals. The original STPPG consisted of a 14-item Likert-type scale, including three subscales: Technique-Specific Shared Trauma, Personal Trauma, and Professional Posttraumatic Growth. This scale highlights the reciprocal effects of shared trauma and aligns with established measures of posttraumatic stress, secondary trauma, shared trauma, and posttraumatic growth. This study employed parallel analysis to examine the dimensionality of the STPPG. Parallel analysis, utilizing a SAS macro and the "parallel" option in Proc Factor, was conducted to assess the dimensionality of the Perspectives of Faculty Caring. Exploratory factor analysis was performed using maximum likelihood estimation, squared multiple correlations, and Promax rotation. The analysis indicated that the STPPG has either two or three meaningful underlying factors. The rotated factor pattern showed positive loadings for all 17 items, with factor loadings ranging from 0.33 to 0.78. A positive correlation was found between the three factors, with correlations ranging from 0.58 to 0.77. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, scale reliability coefficient being 0.89. Subscale reliability ranged from 0.73 to 0.83. Overall, parallel analysis proved to be an effective method for determining the dimensionality of the STPPG.
